25. Cutleaf European Beech
September 2014

The Cutleaf European Beech is big and wide. 

The leaves are spiky.

The bark is smooth, slippery and slick.

There are hollow nuts on the ground around the tree.

November 2014


The leaves have changed to the color orange.

The leaves have gotten bigger and a lot of them are on the ground.

The bark seems harder and stronger.

26. Trident Maple 

September 2014
All of the trees have tags so you can find them on the map.

The Trident Maple looks like an umbrella.

This leaf looks like a duck's foot.

The bark feels flaky, bumpy, scratchy and shaggy.

November 2014
The tree now has half of its leaves and branches.
 It does not look like an umbrella anymore.

The leaves are different colors and they are 3-1/2 inches long.
They are now orange, yellow and red.

The bark was more "peel-y."

The Trident Maple does not look like an umbrella anymore.

The leaves are smaller.

The bark is more ripped.

There are flowers on the tree.

There are no acorns.


27. Red Maple
September 2014

The Red Maple Tree is circular and has thin branches.

The leaves are spiky and have a red stem.

The trunk is really smooth.

There are small buds at the end of the leaves.

November 2014
All of the leaves have fallen off of the tree.

When they fell to the ground, they had changed colors.

The bark has moss and is bumpy at the bottom.

At the end of the branches where the leaves were there are still buds.

The Red Maple Tree has "helicopter" seeds.

The bark is smooth and bumpy at the same time.

The leaves are really small.
Smaller than they were in November.

The tree had more new branches and some were cut off.
